In Roman mythology Jupiter is the patron deity of the Roman state, he ruled over laws and social order.
He was the chief god of the Capitoline Triad, with Juno and Minerva.
In Latin mythology Jupiter is the father of Mars the God of War, making Jupiter the grandfather of Remus & Romulus the founders of Rome.
The name of this Roman God was also used as the name of the largest planet in our solar system, Jupiter and reprents the day Thursday.
The Thunderbolt (thunder and lightning) is Jupiter’s weapon.
All other Roman gods are afraid of him, interestingly like many men powerful men today he was a little wary of his wife Juno 
Jupiter is one of the three sons of Saturn with Neptune and Pluto being the other two.
The trio divided the world between them with Jupiter taking the air, Neptune the sea and Pluto the Earth (home of the Dead!).
